High School Programs

School Choice options include neighborhood schools, Magnet programs, and charter schools.

Boundary Options

HISD residents in a limited number of school zones have a Boundary option to attend a designated relief school on a space available option. Other than address, there are no other qualifying criteria.

Qualifying for Secondary Programs

Certain Secondary Magnet programs have requirements for qualifying such as auditions for particular fine arts programs, language proficiency, a school determined minimum grade from last year's report card average of core classes, G/T identification, or other qualifications listed below. Refer to this Chart at http://www.houstonisd.org/Page/120695.

School-Specific Lotteries

When there are more qualified applicants than space available, a school-specific lottery or audition shall be used to select students. All lottery sessions are being held at Hattie Mae White Educational Support Center by the Office of School Choice. Lottery results are not final until approved by the Office of School Choice.

If you have any questions about what to do next, please contact the magnet coordinator at the school where you have been offered a seat. For more information, please visit our Web site at http://www.houstonisd.org/magnet.

Magnet Programs

Magnet Programs offer a range of thematic educational choices for grades K-12. Each program's enriched curriculum centers on a specialized theme that meets students' diverse needs, while teachers receive training to deliver specialized content using best practices. Magnet Programs seek to draw a diverse student body from throughout the city. Strong community and business partnerships connect the relevance of the theme with a real-world view.
